Recorded and mixed on the outskirts of Naples under the attentive eye of sound engineer Luigi Nobile and mastered in NYC by Mike Fossenkemper, Ghost Dance is the second full length release by The Mantra Above The Spotless Melt Moon for RareNoiseRecords.
Ghost Dance tells tale of wandering souls - characters hypnotized by their own dream - be it Hollequin or the Blue Army lost in the stars - and establishes a raft of new beautiful tunes for the band among which The Wolf is central - as it sees the four young musicians from Naples shedding some of the candour that had characterised their first full length release, Defeated Songs, in favour of a harder, edgier and more mature sound.
The band has moved away from its primarily post-rock roots and has embraced a more elaborate shoegazish sound which taking cues from different traditions, from progressive rock to electronica to Italian singer-songwriting.
"The Italians prove themselves as adept at leftfield turns as writing solid tunes" RockARolla
"Their sound is so rich - transporting the audience to another world" Prog
"Un bel disco che ci riporta visioni oniriche e spettrali" Alias
"Cio' che si respira e' il pathos del racconto sospeso sul filo spinato dell'emozione" Rockerilla
Hot on the heal of their debut release Rooms comes Defeated Songs, the first full length release by The Mantra Above The Spotless Melt Moon.
it is the result of a painstaking year of work conducted in the hills behind Naples (in Eboli) with music producer and mentor Luigi Nobile at the helm.
The result are 10 tracks which show the full gamut of abilities and inventiveness of this wonderful neapolitan band able to to move smoothly away from their post-rock roots (whilst maintaining that pathos) and embracing lighter but more intricate atmospheres, by allowing the confluence jazzy and even musique concrete ararngements to creep into their songwriting. At the helm the ever brilliant Adriana Salomone, her voice in full blossom, sustained by the beautiful songwriting of bass player Davide Famularo, by the exquisite guitar work of Maurizio Oliviero and the intricate and powerful drumming of Salvio Sibillo.
Rooms is the The Mantra Above the Spotless Melt Moon's first release for RareNoiseRecords. It is a heavily post-rock tinged EP which summarises the first years of collaboration by the band, now with singer Adriana Salomone firmly in command of vocals and rhythm guitar.
It contains four tracks amongs which fans' favourite The Fog, Rooms (which also graces the following full length LP debut Defeated Songs) and A Friend With A Knife - a reworking of a track the band had previously released on a split LP with God Is An Astronaut - here featuring the voice of non other than Eugene Robinson of Oxbow.
