Biography

"Meditronica" immediately suggests two interpretations - on the one hand Mediterranean and Electronica, and on the other Meditation and Electronica - both readings are fair.

Meditronica is the brainchild of Italian bass player and dub master Ashtech, currently living in London, and Italian keyboard player Paolo Polcari. The two initially collaborated in the late 90s as members of Almamegretta (of which Paolo Polcari was a founding member). Paolo Polcari and Almamegretta were Italian stalwarts of Mediterranean Dub during the 90s and early this century, when they released successful albums with BMG and collaborated with Massive Attack.

Ashtech's recent work, primarily 'Walkin Target', released in 2007 on Interchill Records and produced by Gaudi, was very well received by the UK and US electronica/dub scene. Meditronica features a number of important guests, among whom Raiz, singer and founding member of Almamegretta, Dub Gabriel, a very respected producer and DJ from San Francisco and Eraldo Bernocchi, experimental producer and guitar player known for his extensive collaborations with Bill Laswell, Nils Petter Molvaer, Toshinori Kondo, Harold Budd and Thomas Fehlmann among others.
